Richard Bolger to produce film adaptation of Irish novel Here Are The Young Men
Irish film producer Richard Bolger (Cardboard Gangsters) and Five Knight Films has acquired the rights to Rob Doyles’ critically-acclaimed debut novel Here Are The Young Men.
Set during the height of Ireland’s economic ‘Celtic Tiger’ boom, the novel tells the story of four young men who have just finished secondary school and how their individual choices steer them on separate paths.
Compared by critics to A Clockwork Orange, Less Than Zero meets Trainspotting and Fight Club, the book marked the arrival of a formidable literary talent in Rob Doyle, channeling an unnerving anarchic energy to devastating effect.
“Here Are the Young Men probably won’t go down well in polite society. So be it: brutalism is a young man’s game. A rough but powerful debut.” – The Irish Times”
The film is planned to go into production in October 2016 and will be directed by Eoin Macken.
