MURMUR MONTHLY PLAYLIST – MAY 2016
This month’s playlist kicks into gear with a new cut from Shit Robot (aka Dubliner Marcus Lambkin) featuring vocals by LCD Soundsystem’s Nancy Whang. The hypnotic rythmic loops of Lose Control takes us back to the classic Compass Point-era Talking Heads LP Remain In Light. Keeping it on the floor we’ve got new tracks from Reflex, Fritz Carlton & Lubelski, and the king himself, Jimmy Edgar with the buoyant RS2000. Taking a short breather from a prolific remixing career, SBTRKT returns with tea and sympathy on I Feel Your Pain. Going by the name of Wastefellow, you’d expect Diolmhain Ingram Roche to be a hirsuted, stoner dude with twelve-string angst but this young Dubliner’s music is awash with deep layers of electronic soundscapes and lyrics that perfectly capture that post-millennial tension. Featuring soon in our Murmur profiles, former bassist with Irish band JJ72, Hilary Woods’ enchanting My Daughter, My Gold taken from her last EP The River Cry is just a taste of what to expect from her new album. Gracing the B-Side of Radiohead’s recent single Kill The Witch is a lavish, string-laden track that was turned downed in favour of Sam Smith’s The Writing’s On The Wall for the title song on the James Bond S.P.E.C.T.R.E. soundtrack. Check out the complete tracklist below. Enjoy.

MURMUR MONTHLY PLAYLIST – APRIL 2016
The photograph that graces the cover of this month’s Murmur Playlist is just one of many intriguing, and at times bizarre, snapshots taken by South African-based Irish photographer and filmmaker Alan O’Connor during his recent visit to Dublin for the Easter Rising centenary (see feature here). Our playlist this month is no different. Irish producer Chymera returns as Merrin Karras with the pulsating ambient crescendo of Void – just a taste of what’s to come from his upcoming album APEX on the A Strangely Isolated Place label. Belfast’s Jordan (Jordan McCuaig) delivers some unfathomly Deep House with Killing Mockingbirds. There’s been many Bowie covers of late but Dublin electronic sorcerer Richie Egan, Jape, has thrown down a fresh take on the classic Ashes to Ashes. Adding to the mix, new tracks from The Internet’s Steev Lacy, Oneohtrix Point Never, Aphex Twin, German performance artist Andreas Loeschner-Gornau and California’s Death Grips, doused with the sweet ‘n’ sour tones of recent Bella Union signing, Holly Macve and you’ve got a playlist that, as Charlie Haughey would say, is Grotesque, Unprecedented, Bizarre and Unusual. Enjoy.
Track list:
1. Captain Murphy – Cosplay / 2. Monte Brooker – Election / 3. Bakongo – Grind / 4. Steev Lacy – That’s No Fun / 5. Thao & The Get Down Stay Down – Bag of Hammers / 6. Holly Macve – We Don’t Know Where We’re Going / 7. Aphex Twin – DISKPREPT4 / 8. Oneohtrix Point Never – Ezra / 9. Jape – Ashes to Ashes (David Bowie cover) / 10. Night Moves – Carl Sagan / 11. Andreas Loeschner-Gornau – I Love Animals / 12. Merrin Karras – Void / 13. Jordan – Killing Mockingbirds / 14. Death Grips – taken from ‘Interview’ (Track 1).

MURMUR MONTHLY PLAYLIST – MARCH 2016
This month we’re serving up some freshly-squeezed tracks from around the globe including some brand new cuts from Irish artists. If you have any pre-conceived ideas on the state of modern Irish hiphop, God Creative (aka Darren Dwyer), from North Dublin’s Darndale estate, is guaranteed to flip your script. His new single, Godzillah, taken from the debut album ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost’ is a defiant call to arms and by far the sickest Irish hiphop track since, well, ever; Dublin three-piece Everything Shook return with their new single ‘Bed Stain’ – a synthy, noir-ish, morning-after-the-night-before track exploring regret, mistakes and discord – all served with just a smidgeon of tongue-in-cheek mischief and leftover claret; A fearless campaigner of UK funky and bassline, Champion, teams up with Four Tet (Kieran Hebden) on the fit and freaky ‘Flip Side’; Animal Collective’s new single ‘Golden Gal’ taken from their new LP ‘Painting With’ has to be their catchiest song since ‘My Girls’; Kelela’s ‘Rewind’ gets the Nugget/Kingdom/Girl Unit treatment that will make you yearn for a dark, air-conditioned Miami club – hey, it’s springtime, we’re allowed to dream.
